Privacy Policy
In short: Airjot collects nothing. There's no account, no analytics and no Airjot server. Your voice is turned into text on your phone, and audio is never stored. Your voice or text leaves your phone only if you add your own key for a cloud service, and then only to that service.
This policy covers the Airjot app and the Airjot keyboard for iPhone and iPad, made by Hilary Wekesa ("I"). It describes what happens to your voice and text when you use them.
What I collect
Nothing. I don't run servers for Airjot, and the app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code. I can't see your dictations, notes or settings, and I don't know who uses Airjot.
What stays on your phone
- Your voice. Speech is transcribed on your device, by default with NVIDIA's Parakeet model. Audio is held in memory only while it's being transcribed, then discarded. It's never saved.
- Your text. Notes, dictation history, your dictionary and snippets are stored on your device. You can set history to be kept for 30 days, 7 days, or not at all, and delete any of it whenever you like.
- Backups. Notes, your dictionary and snippets are included in your device's own backup (such as iCloud Backup) if you have it on. That backup is governed by your agreement with Apple. Dictation history and the speech model are left out of backups.
When something leaves your phone
The speech model download
The first time you set up Airjot, it downloads the speech model (about 480 MB) from Hugging Face. Like any download, this shows Hugging Face your IP address. No voice, text or personal information is sent.
Apple's speech recognition
Until the model has downloaded, or for languages it doesn't support, Airjot uses Apple's speech recognition. Airjot asks for it to run on your device wherever your device supports that. Where it doesn't, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's Privacy Policy. Text cleanup uses Apple's on-device language model on devices that have Apple Intelligence.
A cloud service you choose (optional)
Airjot works fully on your phone. If you want, you can add your own API key for an OpenAI-compatible service, such as OpenAI or Groq, and turn on cloud transcription, cloud cleanup or both. When those are on, the audio or text being processed is sent directly from your phone to the address you entered. It isn't sent to me. That service handles it under its own privacy policy, and your key is kept in your device's Keychain.
The keyboard and Full Access
The Airjot keyboard needs Full Access so it can share recording status and transcribed text with the Airjot app through a storage area on your device that only the two of them can use. The keyboard makes no network connections and doesn't record what you type.
Children
Airjot collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change ever means Airjot handles your data differently, the app will tell you before it happens.
